Rescue – Thursday 20 August 2015

The Redcar inshore lifeboat launched at 1.15pm on Thursday 20 August 2015 to rescue two men in inflatable crafts after they became stranded against rocks off Redcar.

The two men, both in their 20s, were found approximately 3/4 of a mile from the lifeboat station, after they had struggled to make way against the wind and tide.

A local fishing boat was alongside the men when the lifeboat arrived.

The men had broken the plastic oars they had been using to propel the inflatables – a kayak similar to those sold in supermarkets, and a small inflatable dinghy – and had been spotted by a member of Coastwatch Redcar from their lookout above the Zetland Museum.

The men were brought ashore by the lifeboat and were taken to the lifeboat station, cold and wet. After checks by the lifeboat crew they left.
