Rescue – Sunday 20 March 2016
A dog had a lucky escape when it became trapped on rocks just as the tide had started to come in on Sunday 20 March 2016.
The dog ran away from its owner while walking at the South Gare near Redcar and ended up stranded on a rocky outcrop on the seaward side of the breakwater.
The owner was unable to get to the dog and called UK Coastguard for assistance.
The Redcar RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched at 8.45am, and coastguard teams were sent by road to the location.
When the emergency teams arrived they found the dog had been rescued by members of the public.
Two men who were in the area were able to reach the dog and carry it back to safety before the tide came in.
A member of the public told the RNLI that the owner had lost the dog and when he found it it was too distressed to come back to him when he called.
It is understood that the dog was uninjured during the ordeal.
