Rescue – Sunday 31 January 2016

The search for a person missing in the Saltburn area ended this morning when volunteers from the Redcar RNLI lifeboat station recovered a fatally injured man from the base of Huntcliff.

The search began on the evening of Saturday 30 January, and resumed soon after first light the following morning. The two RNLI lifeboat from Redcar launched just after 8.30am and, together with other emergency services, searched an area between the Ship Inn, Saltburn and the point of Huntcliff.

Shortly after the search began, a person was seen at the foot of the cliffs. Three RNLI volunteers went ashore. They discovered the person had sustained fatal injuries.

The man was brought back to the Redcar lifeboat station were he was handed into the care of the police.
