Rescue – Friday 31 March 2017

Both RNLI lifeboats from Redcar were launched in the early hours of Friday 31 March 2017 after UK Coastguard received a request for help from North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to search for a man reported to have walked into the sea.

The 999 call was made to NEAS describing a man wearing dark clothing who was seen walking into the sea near the slipway adjacent to Graffenberg Street, Redcar.

The Atlantic 85 class lifeboat Leicester Challenge III and the IB1 class lifeboat Eileen May Loach-Thomas were launched at around 2.55am and a thorough search made of the sea in that location. RNLI and Coastguard Rescue Teams searched the beach and rocks. The NEAS HART team was in attendance.

After approximately 45 minutes UK Coastguard called off the search and all the emergency services were stood down.

The call is believed to have been a false alarm.
