Rescue – Sunday 23 April 2017

Reports of a surfer in difficulties led to the Redcar RNLI lifeboat being tasked to Saltburn on Sunday 23 April 2017.

Members of the public telephoned UK Coastguard when a surfer became separated from their surfboard in rough seas near Saltburn pier. The crew of the Atlantic 85 class lifeboat Leicester Challenge III were paged just before 3.40pm.

As the crew was preparing to launch the lifeboat, further calls were received to say that the surfer been rescued by others. They were found to be unharmed by the ordeal, and the lifeboat was stood down prior to launching.
