There are a few basic things to remember when you see an emergency at
sea
- If you are not alone and have to leave the scene to raise help, leave
one person behind so that they can continue to watch what's happening
- To raise help, dial 999 and ask for the COASTGUARD
- Stay calm and listen carefully to what you are told and asked
- The Coastguard usually sends land-based units to the place you are
calling from - STAY THERE
- If you are calling from a mobile telephone - once you have finished
the call DO NOT SWITCH THE PHONE OFF - the Coastguard may want to call
you back for more information.
